Description: Tinder-pistol (length 7 ins) of brass, with iron mechanism and wooden butt; a very solid and heavy example; large square receptacle for matches, etc., at front of body, with lid at side, closing with snap-catch; on top thereof, large tinder-pan (hinge of lid repaired); candle-socket near front; foot renewed; late 18th century.
