Beyer Peacock & Co Nationality: British Brief Bio: 1854-1966, locomotive builders, Gorton Works, Manchester Notes: The company was founded in 1854 by Charles Frederick Beyer and Richard Peacock and with Charles Geach as investor but he died shortly after the purchase of land so Henry Robertson replaced him. Gorton Foundry was completed in 1854 and became the headquarters for the company. In 1876 the company became privately limited after Beyer's death and publicly limited in 1902. By 1908 the company was working on Garrett designs. The company closed at the Gorton Works in 1958. |
