Description:  Brass mariner's compass in gimbals set in mahogany box with handles and lead weight to improve stability at sea, said to have been the property of Sir Isaac Newton, compass made in Amsterdam by Benjamin Ayres c.1775, card made later in Amsterdam by J.M. Kleman c. 1850
