Description:  Painting, acquired and attributed as Isambard Brunel DCL. [artist unknown; nd. c1871-1880?]. Oil on canvas, 91.5x71.5cm. Portrait, seated in academic cap and gown, holding paper in left hand, right hand raised to face. Sitter unconfirmed but of middle years, very possibly Isambard III, son (1837-1902) and first biographer in 1870 of Isambard Kingdom Brunel; DCL 1871; sometime Chancellor of the Diocese of Ely; the first person to pass through the gap in theThames Tunnel [in father's care 1841]
